Performance Engineering

Maximise technology performance through application, infrastructure and license assessments

As one of the first steps towards optimising technology costs, we will work with our specialised performance engineering partner Avekshaa to look at all aspects of systems performance. This will ensure your infrastructure is right sized and you are only paying for what you need across technology cost elements including servers, storage, network, software licenses and labour

Application and Code optimisation reviews: Faulty or un-optimised code can chew up a lot of resources and leave business operations in the balance. We will perform complete code assessments to identify coding issues with your software and ensure they do not impact operational performance

Infrastructure optimisation review: Infrastructure bottlenecks can be hard to identify and resolve. The most common yet faulty and expensive solution is to throw more resources to resolve the issue. We help by identifying root cause of the issue through the use of specialised performance monitoring tools and processes, to ensure operational performance and a lower infrastructure foot print

Software license optimisation: Software ongoing support costs could be a significant component of technology budgets and is typically not continuously assessed to see if they match business requirements. Having optimised the performance of applications and infrastructure, we will be able to assess the actual quantity of software licenses required to support business requirements based on the optimisations

There are several industry reports available to compare your technology costs to that of industry peers – while  these reports give you some top down validation, it is still a challenge to validate individual cost elements and assess value on a continuous basis

Further justification of technology costs to business stakeholders is also a challenge due to lack of use of standardised metrics for cost sources. We support mitigation of these issues with a structured set of activities ensuring seamless technology costs management

We start with cost metrics standardisation with application of the TBM (Technology Business Management) taxonomy ensuring any bench marking or presentation of costs  is based on standardised metrics

Based on the scale of the technology costs, we will implement an ITFM (IT Finance Management) tool which will automate consumption of technology costs from various sources (including vendor bills & general ledgers) and modelling and reporting of  these costs

We then bench mark technology costs based on data from various sources including our own industry expertise. The bench marking will be done at a detailed costs element level aligning to the TBM taxonomy. We will also provide technology cost comparison with industry peers locally and internationally

To provide transparency to the business on technology costs, we implement a cost allocation model through the ITFM  tool that relies on more than just number of users to allocate technology costs to the business

Finally, we develop reports and dashboards that measure KPIs, provide meaningful insights and help you effectively manage technology costs

TBM Taxonomy

To gain alignment between IT, Finance, and Business Unit leaders, TBM (Technology Business Management) Council provides a standard taxonomy to describe cost sources, technologies, IT resources (IT towers), applications, and services

The TBM taxonomy provides the ability to compare technologies, towers, and services to peers and third-party options (e.g., public cloud). Just as businesses rely on generally accepted accounting principles (or GAAP) to drive standard practices for financial reporting — and thus comparability between financial statements — the TBM taxonomy provides a generally accepted way of reporting IT costs and other metrics
